REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE TO AMEND THE ORIGINAL
CONSTITUTION
NAME
The
name of this organization shall be the University of Chicago
"Undergraduate Order of the C."
OBJECT
The
objects of this organization shall be:
(1) To
bind together all "C" men of the University to form a body of
actively loyal Chicago men having a special interest in the varsity athletic
department of the University and a successful continuation of its activity.
(2) To
keep in touch with and to foster every interest that will tend to promote the
best ideals of manly, healthful, competitive sport.
(3) To
form an association which shall help "C" men to keep the memory of
the University athletic life and which shall perpetuate the athletic honor and
traditions of our University.
MEMBERSHIP
1) All
undergraduate University men who have been awarded the right to wear the
"C" are eligible for membership in this organization. They become members in full standing upon
signing the roll of membership at the annual meeting.
(2) The President
of the University shall be an honorary member of this organization.
GOVERNING BOARD
The
Board shall be composed of the Executive Committee and two representatives from
each male varsity athletic sport.
ELECTION OF THE GOVERNING BOARD
Two
representatives and a first and second alternate of the governing board shall
be elected in the spring quarter by their respective athletic sport and shall
serve for the following year until they are replaced by their successors. The annual elections will be conducted by
the individual teams and supervised by the active Governing Board
representatives. Existing members may
be reelected.
DUTIES OF THE GOVERNING BOARD
It
shall be the duty of the Governing Board to act as the functioning body of the
"Order of the University of Chicago "C" men" and to promote
the stated objects of the "Order."
OFFICERS
The
officers shall consist of a president, a vice president, a secretary, a
treasurer, and an executive committee composed of five members of which
committee the president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer ex officio
shall constitute four members.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
(1)
Elections of officers will take place in the spring quarter at the joint
meeting of the active Governing Board and its succeeding body of team
representatives.
(2)
Officers shall be elected by and from the succeeding body of team
representatives and the active Governing Board.
(3)
Elected officers shall be replaced as representatives to the Governing
Board by the appropriate alternates of their respective teams.
DUTIES OF OFFICERS
President: It shall
be the duty of the president to preside at the annual banquet dinner and
regular meetings and to perform such other duties as pertain to the office of
president.
Vice
President: It shall be the duty of the vice president
to act as president in the absence of the elected president and to perform such
other duties as pertain to the office of vice president.
Secretary: It shall
be the duty of the secretary to make a written record of the meeting, to send
all members of the "Order" notice of the exact time and place of the
annual banquet dinner, and to perform such other duties as pertain to the
office of secretary.
Treasurer: It shall
be the duty of the treasurer to direct and raise funds for the fulfillment of
the objects of the "Order" and to perform such other duties as
pertain to the office of treasurer.
The
Executive Committee: The Executive Committee shall have charge of
all activities of the "Order," except in cases where reference has
been made to a separate committee. The
Executive Committee shall act as a tiebreaker when the Governing Board reaches
a impasse in their decision making process.
It shall be the duty of the fifth member of the Executive Committee to
prepare the program for the annual banquet dinner and other formal events of
the "Order" and to perform such other duties as pertain to a member
of the Executive Committee.
REGULAR MEETINGS
The
regular meetings of the Executive Committee and Governing Board shall be
conducted at least once a month during the regular University school year. The Executive Committee and the Governing
Board may conduct more meetings if necessary.
ANNUAL BANQUET DINNER
The
annual banquet dinner shall be held at the University, Thursday evening of
Alumni week each year.
AMENDMENTS
This
constitution may be amended at any annual banquet dinner by a two-thirds vote
of all members present.
